Metro News Canada & ScanLife

by david
Metro News, Canada’s largest free daily newspaper with over a million daily readers, started using ScanLife this week to link people directly to digital content on their camera phone.  EZcodes (QR codes) are placed in each section of the paper including World News, Recipes, and Sports to link to updated editorial from their new mobile site (m.metronews.ca). Metro ScanLife To kick off the launch, readers can also scan a barcode for a chance to win a trip to Ireland which is sponsored by Guinness to celebrate their 250th anniversary.  This is a great way to get people engaged in a new technology, and we have seen great results from these kinds of promotions.

Guinness Promotion

Metro is the largest and fastest growing international newspaper in the world, with more than 70 editions published in 100 major cities across Europe, North & South America and Asia.  It has dedicated editions in seven Canadian cities like Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver and it’s the second major newspaper in Canada to use ScanLife’s 2D barcode system since National Post launched in April 2009. This is a fantastic example of how to use the technology  to connect newspaper readers to mobile content from anywhere.  They have provided some education and a great incentive to get going.
